Most people assume that custom means expensive, but that's not the case at all. Our designers have the ability to cater to all budgets big or small. Many people choose to do pre-made or hand knotted area rug in some of their rooms, then mix it up with a one of a kind custom rug in another room.
There are basically three kinds of custom area rugs that our area rug designers can help you with:
1) Custom hand knotted area rugs.
2) Custom hand tufted area rugs.
3) Custom fabricated carpet area rugs which usually means a simple cut and bind or bordered area rugs.
Custom Hand Knotted Area Rugs
You will usually have to wait a little longer than normal when making a custom hand knotted area rug but if you want quality and something really special, it’s well worth the wait.With our custom area rug program you can choose any design, have it made to fit your room exactly and add any color combination you desire. Depending on the size of the rug and the knot count it could take anywhere from 3 to 18 months to be made. In most cases our customers who chose to create a custom area rug settle for a hand knotted rug that is between 80-120 knots per inch which usually takes about 4 -6 months.Choosing a program design - A program design is a design that is already drawn out so the manufacturer doesn’t start from scratch, they simply resize that design to fit your rug and make any changes to color you desire.
Custom Hand Tufted Area Rugs
This process starts with a professional color drawing to scale for your approval. Then a rendering is made for your approval. A few weeks later comes a hand made strikeoff to scale. This is a sample corner of the finished custom area rug. This sample will be actual size of the custom area rug design approximately 2' x 2' in size. This is a great way for you to see, touch and feel the quality of the rug before it is actually manufactured. Once you approve the strikeoff, the custom area rug is then placed into production. The entire process usually goes very quickly.As Area Rug Consultants we know all the questions to ask which helps eliminate any problems early on when making a custom area rug. The hand tufted custom area rug program usually takes about 3-4 months, including the preliminary approval processes.
Custom Fabricated Area Rug
These rugs can be as simple as a cutting a piece of carpet bound, surged or bordered. Choices of seagrass or sisal are another form of custom rug in this category. When choosing a fabricated area rug, we have thousands of predrawn designs to choose from and we will guide you to select the perfect one for your space. The construction of most fabricated rugs are broadloom or wall to wall carpet that has been cut into shapes or lines. It is then either hot glued or stitched depending on the material and then formed together to make the completed area rug. It can also be backed with a cloth backing if you choose, but that really is for prosthetics purposes only. We can save you a little cash by not backing the area rug because you’re going to need a rug pad which can act as the backing.
