The original tree of life patterned carpet dates back to the early 16th Century and is attributed to artisans of Northwestern or Central Persia. Its eleven colors are dominated by a dark navy inner field filled with a rich pattern of flowering trees, cypresses, vine-stems and flowering shrubs, all aligned in the same direction. While the original rug has a wide 3-part border with arabesque stems on a dark blue ground, the modern rug version has a narrow golden edge enhanced with delicate blooms and tendrils for a lighter effect that keeps the eye focused on the magnificent central design. Excellent durability even under heavy foot traffic.
